People we WORK WITH...

Picture
We are people with and without learning difficulties and/or autism, working and learning together. Whether it’s to be seen working, be heard campaigning or belong to a friendly group of people, people achieve their goals with bemix. We live and work in Kent. Most of our work is in Canterbury, Dover, Thanet, Sittingbourne and Medway but we do offer some support in other areas.
We support people with learning difficulties and/or autism to speak up, make choices and become powerful and influential. We support them to gain opportunities and become more independent in learning, housing, work, health, money, travel, leisure and relationships. We support people to hear, respect and empower people with learning difficulties and/or autism. We promote positive action to challenge negative attitudes about disability. We work with local communities so that people with learning difficulties and/or autism become fully included and no longer segregated.  bemix.org

Catching Lives is an independent charity aimed at supporting the rough sleepers, homeless and vulnerably housed in Canterbury and East Kent; those who have, for many reasons, fallen through the gaps in society and feel they have nowhere else to turn.
Our vision is of a society where all are included and all, no matter how disadvantaged, can make a contribution. Catching Lives works towards ending the harm caused to individuals, families and the community, by homelessness, rough sleeping and insecure housing. We do this by offering immediate respite at our project in Canterbury: the Canterbury Open Centre. In addition to this, we work with our clients to help them to tackle any issues that they may have, get access to suitable accommodation and find the motivation to take steps towards personal recovery and independent living.

To this end, a combination of several different types of interventions are available on site; basic services such as nutritious meals, showers laundry, clothing and a postal address; health services providing access to the Mental Health Outreach Service, assistance in registering with a GP; referral to specialist for further care; social and emotional support offering a listening ear, pastoral care and crisis recovery support; advice, advocacy and referral, giving housing and benefits advice, amongst others; work, learning and meaningful activities engaging in recreational and community activities, literacy and numeracy support.

A genuine freehouse where there are two friendly bars with regular live music Friday, Saturday and Sundays, including Bank Holiday Mondays.  Aside to that we have a variety of weekday events including Monday Darts night, Wednesday Bar Billiard League night, Thursday Sea Shanty night and Sunday Vinyl night, not to mention our Pub Quizzes every 2nd Tuesday night of the month for the inquisitive minds!
The front bar offers great windows to watch the world go by or admire the Old town views of the Hastings East Hill. Whilst the cosy back bar is a nice hideaway housing our Bar Billiard table. We also have a large function room upstairs for private hire  which provides for a variety of events to suit many needs, from charitable events and formal meetings to parties and special dining occasions.

At the White Horse, it starts with a warm welcome.

Situated between Canterbury and Ashford, the beautifully picturesque village square of Chilham takes you back to a quieter and more relaxed time, and the White Horse is a key part of the square's character.
As an historic 14th century inn, it's a case of a large open fire during those chilly months, and with a large garden and seating overlooking the square, it's ideally suited for those balmy days and summer nights too.

A classic English pub with an authentic feeling and a touch of quirkiness, The White Horse has a great selection of wines and real ales. Food is served daily, regularly getting 5 star reports on Trip Advisor, as well as proudly having a food hygiene rating of 5.

Tasteful and classic music is played everyday and night. Keep a look out for the live music, varying from jazz evenings, blues & rock, acoustic sets and open 'mic' sessions. Quiz evenings once a month will keep you mentally sharp,  and test your knowledge on a range of subjects. Be sure to look for news here or on Facebook for up and coming dates on all of our events.

Landlord, Ryder, believes in 'old school' values of courtesy and attentiveness at all times, along with customary displays of humour and local knowledge.  Come once as a valued guest, then return again as a valued friend.
